The DeSci Podcast, Blockchain For Good, Devcon Bogotá and how to get involved in Molecule
In this edition we reflect on the conversations from The DeSci Podcast and how we spent our time at Devcon Bogotá, learn more about Balaji’s take on ‘a new medical research system’, dive deeper into web3 x science news and explain how to get involved in Molecule - welcome back!
The DeSci Podcast
Jack Scannell x Molecule
In the DeSci Podcast’s fourth episode, our advisor, Sebastian Brunemeier talked to Jack Scannell, exploring how we can improve drug discovery and the decentralized science space. Jack coined the term Eroom's Law to describe the long term exponential decline in pharmaceutical R&D efficiency. He recently published an article in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery about Predictive validity in drug discovery. Check out the paper and the podcast episode.
Allison Duettmann x DeSci
In The DeSci Podcast’s fifth episode, we spoke to Allison Duettmann, President and CEO of Foresight Institute. We talked about futurism, how Foresight chose the most important things to work on, Allison's positive visions of the future for humanity, and the unlock that DeSci provides for Allison’s work at Foresight. Listen to our episode with Allison here.
Notable Mentions and Appearances
A new medical research system - Balaji Srinivasan
Balaji talked about a new medical research system on an almost 8 hour long Lex Fridman podcast, mentioning both Molecule and VitaDAO as key role players in the DeSci space.
Blockchain For Good
In the latest web3, arts and science report from Blockchain For Good, Molecule is mentioned as one of the key role players under the Health chapter. The report hits the nail on the head when it refers to us as a platform where scientists and researchers share and present their research projects to gain funding from interested collaborators in the form of DAOs, such as VitaDAO.
Devcon Bogotá & Schelling Point Bogotá
Looking back on October, we’re delighted to highlight our talks at Schelling Point and Devcon Week Bogotá - Devcon is thé main Ethereum conference for developers, researchers, thinkers, and makers. It is also a global family reunion for those already a part of our Ethereum ecosystem, and a source of energy and creativity for all. For this one week, different role players within the web3 space came together to shape and build the future of the space, with EthBogotá hosting more than 900 hackers who launched 212 projects to take home over $500k+ in prizes.
During this time, we were lucky to have Paul Kohlhaas from Molecule present “Smart Contracts and Petri Dishes: Creating a Shared Technical Infrastructure Roadmap for DeSci”. Amidst crucial talking points, Paul touched on the importance of decentralization in science and the anatomy of IP-NFT’s as a shared technical infrastructure vehicle for Decentralized Science.
During Schelling Point Bogotá, Paul and Tyler also led a BioDAOs workshop, focussing on retroactive public goods funding, quadratic funding, DAOs/Token Incentivised structures and understanding IP-NFTs. Watch the replay here.
DeSci.Global: An overview of DeSci events
DeSci.Global provides an overview of DeSci events across the globe. We encourage all our community members and the broader DeSci community to submit any upcoming DeSci event in your calendar to DeSci.Global. The next big upcoming event is DeSci London and we are thrilled to help put this together and act as an official sponsor for the event.

Bio.xyz
Previously, we shared the launch of bio.xyz - a biotech DAO and DeSci launchpad, with the goal to enable biotech DAOs to take full advantage of web3 and decentralized IP frameworks like the IP-NFT, enabling them to fund, govern and develop IP emerging from universities, laboratories, and biotech companies across the globe. Ever since our launch, our first cohort BioDAOs have made significant strides and we look forward to their continued and lasting impact on the world of science and biotechnology.
